Nisha has a big decision to make - whether to follow her passion for Law or Medicine. She know she wants to undertake a degree in one of these subjects but isn’t sure which one just yet. “I am interested in both professions so I have chosen to undertake the Biological Sciences stream of Foundation Studies while I make up my mind. UC has one of the best Schools of Law in the country but if I decide to study Medicine, I will study at the University of Otago instead”.
Nisha had visited New Zealand twice on holiday with her family and even studied for one year at a high school in Christchurch, before deciding to pursue her tertiary education here. Her love of New Zealand’s clean environment, relaxed lifestyle and good education system helped her make this decision. “It’s such an easy place to live and study. My family fell in love with New Zealand on our first holiday here- we enjoyed it so much that we even brought our relatives on holiday here too.”
Nisha is enjoying her studies and enjoys the close relationship she has with her teachers. “In Malaysia there is a big divide between teachers and students whereas here teachers take their students seriously. They treat every question as important, even if it is a silly one. My teachers are helping me to succeed in my studies”.
Nisha’s classmates also make the learning experience much more fun as her whole class gets along well and helps each other out. “I have made some really good friends here, and, as we are all away from our families, we support and look after each other.”
