The emphasis in the senior school is on preparing students for a university education. We primarily feed students to Victoria (Wellington), Massey and Auckland universities. We also have a preparation course for the computer graphics programme at Wanganui UCOL.
A Dean of International Students is responsible for day-to-day welfare. International parents can contract for an optional native speaking guardian if they want to at an additional cost.
All our international students are placed in homestays to provide total immersion in the English language. The school carefully selects and manages all homestays.
English Language Support
The school runs four levels of ESOL classes from intensive English to IELTS preparation classes. First year students usually start with addition ESOL classes and change to academic classes as their English improves.
First Year Course
The first year course is for students requiring up to 10.5 hours a week of English lessons as well as tutorial assistance. It will suit students with good written skills but possibly weak conversational skills in English.
Premium First Year Course
The Premium level is for students, usually in their first year, who require a full time programme in English at the start (14 to 24 hours a week) for all, or part of the year. It will suit students with good ability in their other academic subjects but who have weak English language skills and who need to quickly gain an understanding so they can start to study mainstream subjects in English.
In addition there is an in-class support programme to help students in academic subjects. A teacher aide goes into new student's classes to help the student in other academic classes. In addition there is a tutorial programme, so that students can get assistance with their English or other subjects.
Tuition fees are First Year Course NZ$10 700 [NZ$11 500 in 2012] and Premium First year Course NZ$12 300 [NZ$13 000 in 2012] per year. Home stay administration fee is NZ$600. Full weekly board in a New Zealand home is NZ$205 per week (about $8 550per year).
Insurance (personal and health) is approximately $650 for a 44-week academic year.
